My Thoughts on Makeup

Before I start this post, I want to say that it will be a bit rambly (that is a word now) and long. And if anything comes across as offensive, please tell me and I’ll try to fix it, but I don’t mean for anything to come across that way! So, without further ado, let’s start!

Ah, makeup. Some love it and some loathe it, but no one can deny it’s presence. TV adverts, magazines, the media – you name it – all seem to put this idea into the female mind that ‘we need makeup’ or ‘makeup can make you beautiful’. I decided to write a post to explain my views on this matter. So here we go.

First of all, I want to clarify that I have no objection to the wearing of makeup, and sometimes wear a bit myself. My reason? I find it fun to enhance my natural features a bit every now and again. And I think it can be quite pretty. Ooh, and sometimes it’s sparkly!!!!!! (*explodes on the inside because of the sparkles*) The point is, though, that I don’t feel like it is extremely necessary for me to wear makeup. It might just be where I live, or the fact that I don’t feel like I need to impress anyone in particular as I mainly socialise with girls, or it could be something entirely different, but I like it that way.

Now, I get that some people feel the need to use makeup for their own personal reasons, and I’m not going to judge anyone who wears makeup because that would be unfair. So please don’t get me wrong here. I’m just trying to put across the idea that nobody should be or feel forced to wear makeup.

I know plenty of people who would never even want the tiniest bit of makeup to come anywhere near their faces, and at the same time I know people who won’t leave the house without it. And then there are people who need makeup for their career, like actors and models. Of course, those are only two examples.

Makeup, if it is done correctly, can do lots for your appearance, whether it’s just a bit of mascara to enhance the eyes, or a full coat of green to turn you into the wonderful Elphaba (if you get this, please let me know. Unless I already know you get it). Different people have different reasons for why they do or don’t wear makeup, and they’re mostly good and understandable!

In conclusion, I think it is perfectly acceptable to wear makeup, but not to be forced to wear it, and if there’s one thing you should always remember, it’s that it’s what’s on the inside that counts!

Well done, you reached the end of this incredibly long and possibly boring post that I wrote most of late at night when I couldn’t sleep… So yeah!
What are your opinions on makeup? Let me know in the comments if you like!

  1. Great post πŸ™‚
I agree. If you want to try it, go ahead, but don’t feel pressured! Personally, I don’t wear make up, but eh, maybe in the future I’ll experiment? But I’m in no hurry at all! πŸ™‚

  2. I agree! I pretty much refused to wear makeup until i went to uni and people thought i was really strange. I now wear it quite a lot but i know that I’m not just doing it because i feel pressured to look better. I actualy find it quite therapitic putting on make up! Its a bit like painting but im actually good at it πŸ˜› getting dolled up before dinners and thigs is always fun too! Xx

  3. Hi Elly, we love your blog and we agree with your last post on that we like to wear makeup but we would never pressure someone to do so. On our blog we did a top books list and we challenge you to write a post about your favourite books and then challenge three other blogs to do the same. If you need inspiration then please look at our top book blog ( http://4momentsblog.wordpress.com/2015/01/05/our-top-books/ ).
